Pregnancy Pain Relief

Round ligament pain is usually a sharp or stabbing pain in the lower belly or groin area most often occurring when rolling over or standing quickly. It can present itself virtually any time during pregnancy but is most commonly experienced in the second trimester.

Many doctors tell their pregnant patients that Round Ligament pain is normal, cautioning they may have to endure it throughout (and sometimes beyond) their pregnancy. Dr. Hall tells his patients that Round Ligament pain may be typical, but it is certainly not normal. He has been practicing gentle, effective techniques to minimize, manage and usually eliminate the pain associated with Round Ligament stress during pregnancy for over three decades.

WHERE’D THESE LIGAMENTS COME FROM AND WHY ARE THEY STILL HERE?

Well, they’ve been and should stay right where they are, benevolently doing their supportive ligament jobs in the background of your life. These ligaments attach the uterus to the groin. They work with the Sacrotuberous Ligaments to stabilize the entire utero-pelvic region. During pregnancy however, the perfect storm of mechanical and hormonal stress can transform them into raging B*@%&#s. The result can be lower abdominal and pelvic pain and can even stress the fetus.

HOW’D THINGS GO SO WRONG AND WHAT’S TO DO ABOUT IT?

From the moment you became pregnant (Congratulations, by the way!) your body began rebelling. Weight gain stressed virtually all body parts while hormone changes attacked on a different front. At that point the mom-to-be may feel like the only objective is supporting the troupes (body parts) until the onslaught ebbs (delivery).

Utero-pelvic stress can affect pregnancy in many ways including pelvic bone misalignment and tightening/torsion of pelvic muscles and ligaments. Besides low back and pelvic pain in the mother, these stressors can negatively impact the fetus as well. Pelvic contraction, baby mal-presentation and difficult labor/delivery may result. For many who go through this battle, Hall Chiropractic has the answer. Dr. Hall applies gentle, safe and effective techniques to the spine and soft tissues (ligaments, etc.) to relieve the mechanical stress put

on the utero-pelvic structures during pregnancy.

Dr. Larry Webster was a pioneer in developing techniques to relieve the stress on the broad ligaments, the uterus and ultimately the baby. (1) In fact, this

unique method is called The Webster Technique. I am one of the few practicing chiropractors lucky enough to have actually studied directly under Dr. Webster during his tenure at Life Chiropractic College in Atlanta back in the mid-1980s.
